Shearling Mountain Jacket - Red Plaid
The Shearling Mountain Jacket is an expertly made "shirt-jac" style constructed with our premium Italian milled Tech-Wool Melton and Polartec® RetroPile Shearling fleece. A heritage outdoor shirt-jac design updated with modern details, industrial grade construction, for cool to cold season wear in the wilderness and everyday. Built to last in the USA. Available in classic Red-Black plaid with ivory shearling lining.
Like our classic Woodsmand Shirt, the Shearling Mountain Shirt is like one of your grandfather's favorite outdoor shirts from a vintage era, but better. Shirt-jacs fufilled a niche when a shirt wasn't quite warm enough for chilly weather, but due to more active pursuits, a full winter weight jacket was too much. These styles of classic shirts were typicaly lined, so warmer than just a shirt, but light enough to not restrict movement while active. Layer over your favorite waffle thermal, our Shearling Mountain Shirt is perfectly suited for a day of cutting and hauling firewood in the forest to running an errand in your drafty 109, and use around the campsite when things chill down in the evenings.
Robust Without Sacrificing Exceptional Comfort
Our custom Italian milled Tech-Wool Melton is densely woven, robust and rugged, softer than typical Melton Wool, and is now easier to care for. The interior is lined with plush, luxe Polartec Retropile Shearling fleece for exceptional comfort and additional warmth, and the sleeves are lined with smooth, 3M, quilted, poly baffling.
Ample Pockets for the Necessities
Ample pockets include additional chest pocket organizers, one pen-pencil slot and a pen knife pocket, two lower hand warmer pockets, and two inside stash pockets for smartphones and pocket notebooks.
Engineered for Durability and Movement
Double reinforced elbows keep the typical wear points more durable, a touch borrowed from vintage US Navy-type work shirts of a different era, and engineered single arm-side panel construction allows for freedom of arm movement, unlike other button up shirts being made today.
Best of Both Worlds
Wool is nature's longest running performance fiber. When raised and harvested properly, is a sustainable material for use in apparel manufacturing. PDW partnered up with a family owned and operated woolen mill in Italy to create some of the finest hybrid technical textiles, that is a best-blend of old and new worlds, and machine washable for easier care.

I just got my shearling mountain jacket and wow! Heavy duty and purpose built. I love how the pockets are laid out. It’s definitely going to be my go-to jacket. I’ve had a shirt jacket, from Kuhl, for a while and it was good but, the PDW mountain jacket blows that thing out of the water. I’m 5’10 and 205 lbs and went with a size xl and it fits great. I’m looking forward to many adventures with this great piece of gear. Thanks PDW, keep up the good work.
As always, Prometheus has created an incredibly cool and high quality jacket that is so functional but also so stylish. I love having them as my sole source for special gifts for my partner- he is always thrilled with their products. This jacket has all the right things- and even has a special material at the wrist to avoid any bulk- so smart! Absolutely love it.
I took the leap and ordered this shirt jack on release day. Shipping to the East Coast had it here the following week thankfully. Just in time for the polar vortex that hit the US with windchill temps here going negative. This thing kept me nice and warm when those temperatures dropped. The wool is very smooth and soft to the touch yet you can feel it's a quality tight weave. The fleece inner is like butter. The quality of materials and craftsmanship are just ::chef's kiss:: This is perfect for lounging around a campfire or just getting outside when the temps drop. I don't feel too hot, and certainly not cold in it. And what is there not to love about the PDW red and black plaid?
I own the PDW wool DRB Woodsman shirt and it's an awsome 3 season garment. I wanted something slightly heavier for late fall/winter wear and this fit the bill perfect. I was a little concerned that the faux shearling lining was going to make it a different cut compared to the unlined Woodsman but that was not the case. However, I will add if you plan to layer over anything thicker than a t-shirt to go up a size. I wore a long sleeve wool undershirt with no issues tho.
The additional hand warmer and two inside smart phone sized pockets are welcome features over the lighter weight Woodsman. You will come to appreciate the little details like the nylon lined sleeves that help it slide over long sleeve shirts and the extra material in the back really gives your arms and shoulders a little extra room for when you're more active. The exceptional quality of the materials and manufacturing plus the fact that the Mountain Jacket is also cut and sewn in the US was a determining factor in my decision to purchase this garment.
