Details Make the Design
It is the finer points in design that defines the goods that PDW design and makes. In addition to the expertly machine jimping, pocket clip and Hyperglow glow dot in the titanium switch, this version of the CAS OTF features a Crucible Magnacut® blade.
Designed Smarter
Our Founder and Chief Designer Patrick Ma strives to apply his unique design perspective in all of PDW's goods. From something as pedestrian as his intentional choice of using a billet titanium pocket clip over a low cost sheet metal type to an machined lanyard hole cleverly integrated in the handle, it's this ethos which makes our goods stand apart.
Special Projects Division
The CAS OTF falls under our Special Projects Division label. This division is tasked with creating experimental runs, limited production editions, collaborations, tackling unusual design challenges, and creating unexpected but useful results that may often change and/or improves the nature of things in a particular context.

The deployment on the knife is great and it’s feels great in the hand. My only issue is the blade a some wobble to it when it’s deployed. I’m not sure if all are like this or if it’s just mine. I would still recommend this knife to a friend the wobble on the blade is just slight negative for me.

Good size lovely construction with a few issues
First off this knife is gorgeous, looks like something Jony Ive would have designed. It’s a beautiful piece of industrial design. The blade itself is sharp out of the box (a few swipes on a strop will give it a razor edge) and lockup is good enough for an automatic. My gripes with it are reliability. First use out of the box it failed to deploy, PDW was very prompt with an easy to follow guide to get it operable again, however since then the deployment issues persist. I don’t use it as a fidget toy but I’m seeing around a 35-40% deployment failure which requires a bit of faffing around to get it working properly again.
This is my first automatic knife so I don’t know if it’s an isolated instance or if all OTF autos are similar reliability wise. Therefore I’m hesitant to put it into rotation, the last thing I want to do is fiddle around with a blade that won’t lock in either position for 30seconds to a minute one out of every 3 times I use the thing. Again beautiful knife but my example is a bit underwhelming.
Hi Kaitlin, thank you for your review. We investigated the reports from a few of these reported and after our review we discovered that part of this run used a high viscosity lubricant which slowed down the action during colder temperatures. You are welcome to send it on in for a 'spa treatment' where we'll remove the current lube and replace it with a lighter viscosity lube. You can also easily do this at home by soaking the knife in acetone, drying (or blowing out with canned or compressor air), and then spraying a light gun oil inside. Hope this info helps!

It’s ok…
This is actually a pretty decent little knife. It fires well, good snap on lock up. My only real issue has been cold weather affecting the deployment. When the knife is cold, and I mean around the freezing mark, the blade will not deploy to full lock nor will it return to full lock position. I’m sure people will note the knife resides in the pocket thus never reaching those temps, but I was using it outside and set it down and it got cold and would not fire. Anyway, still a good knife, clean quality build. I like it.
