Commonly referred to as the Mexican Walking Fish, this cheeky fellow is actually an amphibian. Found in Mexican freshwater lakes and ponds, the Axolotl has the abilty to regenerate lost limbs and organs (sometimes up to 5 times!).
Axolotls are named after the Aztec god Xolotl, who is associated with both dogs and salamanders. The ancient Aztec word for water is Atl, so loosely translated, Axolotl means 'water dog'.
