StormTek™
The Membrane

23,000mm / 21,000 g/m² — StormTek™ ePTFE

Most waterproof/breathable jackets force a trade-off: maximum waterproofness at the cost of breathability, or high breathability in a membrane that struggles in sustained rain. StormTek™ eliminates that compromise.

At 23,000mm hydrostatic head, the Aegis LT handles anything weather throws at it — sustained alpine rain, driving coastal storms, wet mountain snowpack. At 21,000 g/m²/24hr moisture vapor transmission rate (MVTR), it vents hard effort effectively, keeping you dry from the inside out during high-output activities like hiking, trail running, or technical climbing approaches.

The entire jacket is fully seam taped — no weak points, no drip-through at the shoulders or arms under load.

Shell
Construction

40D Mini-Ripstop Nylon | C6 DWR | 30D Wicking Inner Facing

The Aegis LT's face fabric is 40D mini-ripstop nylon — a deliberate choice. Many "lightweight" hardshells use 15–20D nylon to shave grams, which compromises durability against rock, brush, and pack abrasion. The Aegis LT's 40D fabric holds up in the field without crossing into expedition-heavy territory. The C6 DWR finish is applied at the face fabric to ensure water beads and rolls off rather than wetting out.

The inner facing is a custom 30D wicking polyester — actively pulling moisture away from mid-layers rather than trapping condensation against them. This matters in sustained output and sustained cold: no clammy lining, no moisture build-up against your fleece.

Cohaesive
Integrated
Components

PDW's Cohaesive™ system manages shock cords and hardware with molded nylon components in an internally routed, low-profile configuration. No external cord-locks, no hardware rattling against gear, no loose cord ends to catch. It's the kind of detail you don't notice until you use a jacket without it.

Field-Ready
Details

Purpose-Built

The Aegis LT carries several details that set it apart from standard performance hardshells:

Laser-cut loop panels on upper sleeves. Hook-and-loop compatible morale patch attachment, letting users mark their gear, express unit or community affiliation, or carry visual ID. Standard in military and law enforcement apparel; essentially absent from the civilian technical hardshell market, but included as a signature design detail in many of PDW's apparel styles to allow users to individualise their garments.

Hypalon cuff tabs. More durable than elastic or velcro closures, resistant to UV degradation and abrasion, and maintenance-free over years of use.

2-way center front zipper. Allows ventilation from below when climbing without fully opening the jacket; better temperature regulation during variable-output activity.

Full windflap behind the main zipper. No cold air infiltration through the zipper teeth.

Pockets
& Organization

Designed for the Field, Not the Trail Map

Most hardshells stop at two hand pockets. The Aegis LT goes further:

  • 2 zippered chest pockets — accessible over a pack hipbelt, large enough for gloves or a phone
  • 2 zippered upper sleeve pockets — keep essentials accessible without opening your jacket or dropping your pack
  • Interior Napoleon pocket with reinforced pen slot and electronic device wire port — your GPS unit, earbuds, or map stay organized and your cable routing stays clean
  • All pockets use YKK Aquaguard® zippers throughout — the waterproof zipper standard trusted by the technical outdoor industry

The upper sleeve pockets are the detail most buyers notice after a season of use. They're uncommon in jackets at any price point and meaningfully useful when you need fast access without disrupting layering or pack systems.

Hood
System

Articulated 3-Panel Helmet-Compatible Hood | Welded Mini-Bill | Dual Shock Cord Management

The Aegis LT's hood is helmet-cut — engineered to fit over most bump helmets, climbing helmets, and protective headgear. This isn't an afterthought; it's a decision that determines the hood's entire patterning. The articulated 3-panel construction means it moves with your head rather than fighting you, and the welded mini-bill keeps rain off your face without a floppy brim that catches wind.

Shock cord adjustment is managed via PDW's Cohaesive™ system — internally routed, with no loose cord ends or hardware clutter. Clean profile, fast adjustability, nothing to snag.

FAQ

How does StormTek™ compare to Gore-Tex?

StormTek™ is PDW's proprietary ePTFE membrane, rated to 23,000mm waterproofness and 21,000 g/m²/24hr breathability. Those are top-tier numbers by any measure. PDW engineered StormTek™ in-house rather than licensing an existing membrane technology, giving us full control over performance specifications and construction.

Is the Aegis LT good for hiking and backpacking?

Yes. The active cut, light weight (18.4 oz / 521g in a medium), and high breathability make it well-suited for high-output activities. It packs down compactly and layers over base layers through medium-weight fleece.

Will the hood fit over a helmet?

The Aegis LT hood is specifically cut for helmet compatibility and fits over most bump helmets, climbing helmets, and similar protective headgear.

What sizes does the Aegis LT come in?

S, M, L, XL, XXL. The fit is active/regular and can be worn over a base layer up to a medium-weight fleece or sweater.

Where is the Aegis LT made?

The Aegis LT is produced offshore to PDW's technical apparel standards, using premium components including YKK Aquaguard® zippers and Cohaesive™ molded nylon hardware.

Excellent but familiar, NOT MITUSA

Great product, not made in the USA but seems identical to the Arcteryx Beta SL Shell. I'm not sure who was first but at least this one is $170 less than the Arcteryx variant.

i absolutely love this outer layer, it’s lightweight but strong and weatherproof , i’ve warn it in negative temperatures and when paired with the right mid layer for whatever activity you are pursuing this outer layer has no rival , and the two shoulder patch pieces allow you to truly make it your own with your choice of moral patches. this jacket is my favorite thing a close second is my merino mid layer , thanks

Great shell

Top-quality shell jacket. Very well thought-out features and excellent build quality. It's definitely sized to fit over bulky layers: I'm 6ft2 230lbs 46" chest and the XL fits comfortably over my thick-baffle expedition down puffy. If you live in warmer climates or just looking to wear this over a base layer and fleece I would definitely think about sizing down.

My favourite feature is the cuff design: the extra material over the back of the hand and hypalon cuff just work perfectly with so many different types of gloves. Haven't had it in rain yet but have done multiple long snowshoe hikes in heavy falling snow and it's kept me dry and protected. It looks great too: the outer fabric has a slight rip-stop look and feels softer and less crinkly than Gore Tex. Highly recommended and will hopefully be getting years of solid use out if it.

Great fitment. Great coverage. Worn during an intense snow storm and no wind gets through. Kept me dry during squalls as well. The attachment ring in the pockets is a nice touch. Very good zippers, ample pockets, sufficient ventilation, great head coverage and very cool cinch locks for the bungee straps. I wish it was made in the USA but I don't think we have many mfg. Places with this type of fabrication technology. Still a great piece.
