Overview
PDW set out to design and create the world's finest 1-handed sparking unit. Why 1-handed? The original intent was so an US Airman who might have one hand or arm incapacitated from an egress injury, could still start a life saving fire with this device using only one hand. Still makes sense in any survival situation. We choose aerospace grade 5 titanium billet for the primary construction for a lifetime of corrosion proof performance.

Here's where we pushed the envelope of service life and functionality. Our design features an integrated storage cap to store additional "flints". The cap also acts as a driver to unscrew the spring retainer when replacing the flint. The additional functionality comes in the form of 2 neck down sections to wrap fishing line to nano cord, either of which have indispensable uses. Fine details such as the knurling for grip and an asymmetrical radiused wheel fork for an easy to index unidirectional rotation of the sparking wheel, round out this high level, expertly made, fire starting implement. It takes many machining steps in the process to create this small fire making device. The Ti-1HSU is the finest sparking unit of its kind.

Details Make the Design

We took the original military issue version and applied numerous upgrades. The driver to unscrew and access the flint spring is integrated into the cap. Fine industrial knurling was applied to the body for sure grip in many conditions. The body features two neck down sections to allow the wrapping of fishing line to nano cord.

Extended Service Life

Another feature in our Ti-1HSU is the built in storage for extra flints in the cap, extending it's sparking ability 4 fold per reload. We used aerospace grade 5 titanium in the construction of this sparking unit. Our EDC metal alloy of choice for durability, it's impervious to corrosion, lightweight and strong.

Expanded Functionality

While these are already a compact size, we still managed to find a way to make this device even more useful for survival needs. Shown here with (user defined) fishing line or nano cord; more indispensable materials for wilderness survival. The wheel fork is asymmetrical to allow for tactile indexing of sparking direction.

Stand Alone or
Use Together

The overall size of the Ti-1HSU is very compact can be used as a stand alone device. It is also a perfect fit in our Ti-FST (F.ire S.upport T.ool) and along with a few other items, creates a highly efficient, self contained fire making kit.
