    Rated to 100 meters of water resistance, so a swamped canoe or a bad joke about your swimming lessons won't end it. Glow in the dark cardinal points for when the sun clocks out before you do. Small enough to disappear into a pocket, a survival tin, and of course fits in our Expedition Watch Band Compass Kit.


    For a few hundred years the British Crown marked its property with a broad arrow, a simple pheon stamped into muskets, canteens, prison uniforms, and yes, military compasses, to say plainly: this belongs to the Crown, don't lose it. We liked the shape, we liked the history, and we liked that an arrow already knows which way is north. So we built ours into the needle itself. Half heritage mark, half working part. No wasted lines.

      What is a button compass used for?
      A button compass is a small backup compass built for wherever your main compass or GPS can't go. Tuck it in a pack, or mount it to a watch band with our EWBC kit. It gives you a reliable heading with no added weight and no battery.

      Is this compass waterproof?
      Yes. It's rated to 100 meters of water resistance, so rain, river crossings, and the occasional dunking won't stop it from working.

      What does the Broad Arrow mark on the dial mean?
      The Broad Arrow is our take on the old British Crown property mark once stamped on military equipment, including compasses. We built ours into the north indicator itself, so the history and the function are one and the same piece.

      Is this the same compass used in the Expedition Watch Band Compass Kit?
      Yes. It's the exact compass housed inside every PDW Expedition Watch Band Compass Kit, sold here on its own for backup or replacement.

      Does it need batteries?
      No. It runs on the earth's magnetic field, the same way compasses have for centuries. No batteries, no charging, no firmware update to wait on.
